Winter Cardinal

I've been stuck inside because of the snow so I set my camera up by my back door to see if I could get any photos of the birds at my feeder. This photo was my best one. It didn't come out too bad considering I took it through 2 doors and the wind was blowing the feeder. I can't wait to get out with my 500 mm zoom lens when I have a chance to set up good photos.

  1. Nice picture. Here the cardinals only eat out of a platform feeders. I set three platform feeders as well as three regular feeders and two suet feeders, Woodpeckers eat two suet cakes weekly.

  2. Thanks, Don. I gave up putting out suet because the dopey starlings hogged most of it. It would be gone in a couple days. I have had some woodpeckers in my backyard. I don't want to put out any platform type feeders because I get too many pigeons around here. I'm looking forward to hummingbird season because I had a lot of them around here last year when I put my feeder out.

  3. Even though the cardinal is Virginia's state bird I have more Downy woodpeckers and even a pileated red head once in a while than cardinals. The platform feeders here attract squirrels. I gave up trying to stop them.
