Country Churches Part 2

In my last post, I commented about Lybarger Church so I thought I'd post some photos. The church is in Bedford County, PA. There were 5 Lybargers who fought in the Revolutionary War and there was a special memorial to them in front of the church.

  1. Interesting. Amazing that both Nick Sr and Jr fought in the war. Wonder how a small church like this can support a minister unless he or she cover a few churches.

    1. I'll have to go through my photos to see if I have photos of all the grave markers so we can check the age difference between Nick Sr and Jr. We might have something in the college library with dates, too. Those small country churches usually share a pastor with other churches. The pastor may have 2 or 3 churches. There are also some churches where the pastors volunteer because they have full time jobs to support themselves. Many of these old churches are literally dying out because they aren't getting any new members and the current members are aging and dying off. It's really sad.

  2. The First Presbyterian church here I understand use to have over 800 members years ago. Today they have 70, yet they are doing well. They have a large day care center for kids under 5 and they receive $3,000.00 per month rent for the cell tower inside the church steeple
